Hi, it’s me, Lin! I hope you take the time to read my blog and comment on it. I love writing about everyday things, stuff we all go through every day. Growing up with brothers that were very funny and sarcastic, I brewed up my own brand of sarcasm, sans the mean part (like my brothers) and came into my own. I think each of us has our own creative outlet…this one is mine. I’m happy if no one reads it, I’m happy if everyone reads it.
To know about me is to know my generation. We grew up together, side-by-side, we traveled together and we have seen, heard, and relate to a heck-of-a-lot of the same stuff. Our struggles, our dilemmas — all similar, yet vastly different.
My generation is special to me, we are in our 50s, and it feels like we have been through it all! We are desperately trying to hang on to ourselves, to stay healthy, have FUN, and stay young. We are still ramping up and we don’t want to head downhill.
Maybe we’ve raised children and now have grandchildren. Maybe we have taken over raising our own parents as they enter the final stage of their lives. Regardless of our experience, passion or our standing, we find ourselves living and working side-by-side with younger generations. The Y generation is an active, intelligent group, often running businesses and more. They are smart and creative and they are a big part of our lives.
We’re also tapping into a new vocabulary — Alzheimer’s, “older worker”, lay-offs, foreclosure, zip-lining, breast cancer and Oxycontin. Today we are immersed with complicated relationship issues at work at at home. Dang it, we are busy, and there is a lot to talk about and new information to share. There is beauty in life and we have a lot of love to give to those who need it.
50sfab.com is where sense of humor and reality meet the road. We need to laugh, even if at ourselves! We need to stay on track with what’s real and what’s happening around us, successfully meshing with younger and older generations, learning along the way.
And absolutely, we need to realize those things that keep us young, healthy, and fabulous! Please feel free to share your thoughts with me. If you have topics you would like to hear about, don’t hesitate to write. If you are a writer and would like to share some space on 50sfab.com, don’t be shy, let me know.
